{"id":65,"date":"2013-11-30T20:11:13","date_gmt":"2013-11-30T20:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.org\/?p=65"},"modified":"2013-11-30T20:35:27","modified_gmt":"2013-11-30T20:35:27","slug":"how-to-interpret-results-and-take-action-on-duplicate-files","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/?p=65","title":{"rendered":"How to interpret results and take action on duplicate files"},"content":{"rendered":"<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Now that you&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/howto.html\"> installed Snoop-de-dupe<\/a> you can view results and take action<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Open the Windows Server Console and select Snoop-de-dupe from the main tab bar<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>If any duplicate files have been found to date then they will automatically be displayed in the top-most list box.\u00a0 For example, <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/screens\/whs\/mainscreen.png\">this screen-shot shows<\/a> that many duplicate JPG photos have been found on the server.\u00a0 Note, only the first 20 duplicate files are displayed in the main list-view.\u00a0 To view all duplicate files, select the Batch Resolve button<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Once duplicate files have been found on your server, there are a few different actions you can take.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/screens\/whs\/resolve.png\"> Double-click on any one of the master duplicate files<\/a> in the top-most list box to open a new dialog displaying a list of all its duplicate files.\u00a0 You will be giving the following options:<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Delete Duplicate<\/strong> &#8211; this will delete the duplicate file which is currently selected in the list<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create Hard Link<\/strong> &#8211; this will replace the duplicate file which is currently selected in the list with a hard-link to save storage space (this feature is only available on WHS\/SBS 2011)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set As Original<\/strong> &#8211; this will replace the current file, as displayed in the Original File name text-box, with the currently selected duplicate file in the Duplicate Files list-box.\u00a0 This does not affect the physical files on the server.\u00a0 It simply lets you tell Snoop-de-dupe which file you want to keep as the &#8220;original file&#8221; and which file(s) you want to tag as &#8220;duplicate files.&#8221;\u00a0 You cannot delete an original file using Snoop-de-dupe; only files marked as duplicates can be deleted<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ignore these duplicate files<\/strong> &#8211; check this box to ignore all of the duplicate files in the list and remove the duplicate from the master list.\u00a0 This will take effect when the Exit button is pressed<\/li>\n<li><strong>Copy To Clipboard<\/strong> &#8211; copy the duplicate file list to the Windows clipboard for easier file management<\/li>\n<li><strong>View the contents of a file <\/strong>&#8211; you can double-click on any duplicate file in the list and the registered viewer (e.g. mspaint, notepad, Excel, etc) of that file type will open and display the contents of the file for your review.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>After you&#8217;ve taken the appropriate action on the duplicate files you can press Exit to return to the master list<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>As a shortcut, if you want to ignore all of the master duplicate files currently displayed then press the <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/screens\/whs\/mainscreen.png\"> Ignore these duplicate files button<\/a> (located in the upper-left <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/screens\/whs\/mainscreen.png\">on WHS V1<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/screens\/sbs\/mainscreen.png\">on WHS\/SBS 2011<\/a>).\u00a0 Note, if another duplicate file is found in the future that matches a file you previously ignored then both files will be added back to the master duplicate list for your review.<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/snoopdedupe.com\/images\/bluearrow.jpg\" width=\"32\" height=\"24\" \/><\/td>\n<td>A second option for managing duplicate files is the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.org\/?p=74\">Batch Mode<\/a>\u00a0feature.\u00a0 This feature is very useful if you have many duplicate files that must be resolved<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that you&#8217;ve installed Snoop-de-dupe you can view results and take action Open the Windows Server Console and select Snoop-de-dupe from the main tab bar If any duplicate files have been found to date then they will automatically be displayed in the top-most list box.\u00a0 For example, this screen-shot shows that many duplicate JPG photos &hellip;
