{"id":166,"date":"2013-12-09T19:26:21","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T19:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.org\/?p=166"},"modified":"2014-04-30T22:04:55","modified_gmt":"2014-04-30T22:04:55","slug":"first-time-configuration-of-personal-storage-host","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/?p=166","title":{"rendered":"First-time configuration of Personal Storage Host"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On first launch, the Personal Storage Host software will guide you though the process of configuring your server.\u00a0 The screen-shots in this article were taken on WHS 2011 but the process is identical on all versions of the software.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch Personal Storage Host, either from the Server Dashboard or from the Windows Start menu.\u00a0 You will be prompted to register the software.\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve already purchased the software then enter the email address and order ID found in your email order confirmation and press the Register button.\u00a0 If you are trialing the software or using the complimentary three user-seat software then press the Exit button to dismiss the registration dialog.\u00a0 Note, you can activate the software, or add new user-seats,\u00a0at any time by select the &#8220;activate order id&#8221; from the main Status window<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1-activate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-167 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1-activate-300x219.png\" alt=\"1-activate\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1-activate-300x219.png 300w, http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1-activate.png 887w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Next, you will be given the opportunity to automatically configure the web service used by the storage host.\u00a0 Typically, you will see four green check-marks meaning your server is\u00a0ready\u00a0for the one-click automated configuration process.\u00a0 Click the Auto Configure button to begin<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2-firstrun.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-168 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2-firstrun-300x209.png\" alt=\"2-firstrun\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2-firstrun-300x209.png 300w, http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2-firstrun.png 797w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you see any red\u00a0X&#8217;s then you&#8217;ll need to either resolve the issue before proceeding\u00a0or you can close the dialog and manually configure the web service as described in appendix A of the users manual.\u00a0 Here are some tips on resolving errors marked with a red ex:\n<ol>\n<li><strong>IIS Service active<\/strong> &#8211; from the Windows Start menu, type &#8220;iis&#8221; in the search box to run the IIS Manager.\u00a0 In the Actions pane in the upper-right select Server Manager | Start<\/li>\n<li><strong>Installed version<\/strong> &#8211; there should never be a error noted here.\u00a0 This is simply helpful information letting you know which version of the web service you currently have installed if you&#8217;re upgrading the Personal Storage Host software<\/li>\n<li><strong>Latest version<\/strong> &#8211; there should never be a error noted here.\u00a0 This is simply helpful information letting you know which version of the web service you are installing right now<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automation components<\/strong> &#8211; the Microsoft.Web.Administration .NET components must be installed for the automated configuration to proceed.\u00a0 These are typically installed as part of the base operating system so this should rarely occur.\u00a0 But, if you uninstalled these components from your system then you will need to configure the web service manually as described in appendix A of the users manual<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The last step is to configure your server name.<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4-activate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-171 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4-activate-300x219.png\" alt=\"4-activate\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4-activate-300x219.png 300w, http:\/\/support.electrongoo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4-activate.png 887w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Host id<\/strong> &#8211; this is a unique id always created for you by the software<\/li>\n<li><strong>Host domain<\/strong> &#8211; this is the domain name of your server.\u00a0 If you have a static IP address then this could be an address such as 255.255.255.255 but typically it will be a friendly name which you registered with your ISP (e.g. me.mydomain.com) or with Microsoft (e.g. mywhs.homeserver.com) to identify your server on the internet.\u00a0 You can press the Verify button to open a browser to verify the web service is correctly setup at the host domain name you specified<\/li>\n<li><strong>Host name<\/strong> &#8211;
